KAYE DRAGICEVICH, genealogist, was born in Auckland in 1954. She married Paul Dragicevich from Kaitaia. Paul’s father George Dragicevich (1924 – 1981 ) was the second student of Croatian origin to qualify as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand. George opened a law practice in Kaitaia and his reputation was of a solid practitioner and champion of the underdog. George was the first President of the Kaitaia Dalmatian Club when it was established in 1954. He was the son of Joze Dragicevich (1878 – 1955) and Marija Dominkovic. George’s grandfather Grgo (1856 – 1929) began gum digging in New Zealand in 1888 and his sons Joe and Andro followed when they were 12 and 16 respectively. In 1923 Joe and Andro established a general store in Awanui.
