Managing Director, Managing and Franchising hotels in Eastern Europe and Caribbean:

*Dorobanti Hotel Bucharest, Romania – 302 Guest Rooms & Suites & Conference Centre

Chosen to manage the Dorobanti Hotel, which was in the process of being converted to the Grand Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel.  Responsibilities included reorganization of the management structure, retraining the staff and planning the $17 million renovation of the entire hotel facility.

  • Designed and implemented a program that dramatically improved sales and profits by 36% during first year of management.
  • Improved the hotel’s image in the community and the hospitality and travel industry through positive customer relations and community involvement.
  • After revamping the Mon Jardin Restaurant received critical acclaim “for raising the standard” in the press for both the quality of the food and the restaurant’s entertainment. Developed new franchise hotels and promoted the CENDANT Corporation, and serviced existing franchises.
  • Launched the first Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Europe and Middle East.

Hired to initiate discussions and negotiations for the property.  Responsible for implementing procedures for planning, training, motivating, directing and controlling operations. Converted to Ramada system to achieve better results within the Canadian and international market.

  • Developed strong marketing management policies and procedures based on three philosophies: manage from the front, select an enthusiastic team and participate in community affairs.
  • Formed and structured the investment corporation and completed the acquisition.
  • Revamped the restaurant and catering operations and dramatically improved profitability by bringing in an expert chef to improve food quality and hiring and retraining the service staff.

 

Ramada Hotel Downtown                                                                                                   1977 – 1990

Promoted to management level with increasing levels of responsibility as General Manager for this 342-room property. Developed the Marketing & Sales plans for opening of this new hotel. Carried out labor relations with union representatives. Planned and directed the complete renovation of the property. Implemented and monitored the accounting and control systems, as well as budgets and forecasts. Managed effective operations of sixteen departments, and support staff of 150 employees. 

 

  • Successfully organized regional sales blitzes resulting in increased revenue from corporate clients utilizing high quality catering for social gatherings and seminars.
