Born in 1942 in Antofagasta, Chile. He is the son of Croatian immigrants from the island of Brač. Married to Nadia Vlahovic Tomicic, he has two children: Milka and Branko.
He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Chile and a postgraduate diploma in Cultural Project Management from the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He specializes in museology, cultural heritage, and pre-Columbian art.
He works as a draftsman, illustrator, and printmaker (woodcut/linocut techniques).
Since 1970, he has served as a university professor, researcher, and community outreach advocate at several universities in northern Chile. He is the former Director of the Archaeological Museum of the University of Chile in Antofagasta and former Director of the Institute for Anthropological Research at the University of Antofagasta.
He was the first Honorary Member of the Chilean Committee of ICOM (International Council of Museums). He also works as a consultant, trainer, and public educator in his areas of expertise.
He currently resides in Gaiman, Chubut, in Argentine Patagonia, for family reasons. He collaborates with the Regional Historical Museum and supports projects involving the Mapuche-Tehuelche community.
He is a correspondent for Male Novine, a Croatian-Chilean magazine based in Punta Arenas, and for the website of CEPAC – the Circle of Professionals and Entrepreneurs of Croatian Descent in Santiago, Chile.
Marinov is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Virtual museum of emigration.
